A word from the author
Dear Grown-up
Whether you are a parent, grandparent, guardian, relative or simply an adult who has purchased The Big Prince as a present, it means that you care for a child. I don’t know what the child in question looks like, how old they are, what they enjoy or where they are from, but there is one important thing I do know: your child is talented. This is something I hope you will always remember.
In the ancient world, a ‘talent’ was a unit of weight used for measuring amounts of gold and silver, and sometimes other precious metals. In Homer’s poems though, it always refers to gold. Such gold exists within your child too; he or she is born with it, and it’s your belief in your child’s talent that will make it grow. You are the one with the power to nurture it and help it develop.
Talent comes in all shapes and sizes and it’s not always visible at first glance. Like the girl narrator in my book, your child may not be aware of their talent – they may even deny being talented – but if you constantly believe in them, the talent will continue to grow as the child develops and it will, sooner or later, reveal itself. It’s also important to remember that talent isn’t necessarily one dimensional – my narrator is a girl with a myriad of talents, but the different aspects of her own innate gold aren’t always obvious to her (not that this matters necessarily).
Thank you for choosing The Big Prince and I would love to receive your honest feedback on the story.
My warm regards,
Yordanka
